Introducing the…
Hazel Living Lab
For 120 years, Hazel Avenue Elementary has been a place where children learn, grow, and build community. A Title I school, Hazel is deeply committed to equitable access to experiential learning.
The Hazel Living Lab is a planned 0.5-acre community food forest and 1,000-square-foot greenhouse that will transform an underused corner of our campus into a year-round growing and learning space.
The greenhouse will serve as a new classroom where all disciplines can come together and learn through nature. Produce grown will be distributed through our in-house pantry, the Hazel Corner Shop. The surrounding food forest will also produce food and provide critical ecosystem habitat while strengthening our ties to land, culture, and community.
